Dream Home: Blissful Bathrooms
Sarah and I spend more time than we’d like to admit disappearing down Pinterest rabbit holes. The downside? There are 101 other things do do in this life! The upside - we find tonnes of inspiration and get excited about design. We discovered that we both save pictures of rooms we’d love to recreate in our “dream homes” - the homes we desperately hope to have one day, one way or another! In sharing them with each other, we’ve been able to compare notes on our likes and dislikes - it’s always interesting to see what we have in common, and where our differences lie! Now we’ve decided to collate our favourites and share them with you, giving you a glimpse of our personal style and a picture of the spaces we’d most like to inhabit. Who knows, maybe one day our replicas of these rooms will really come to be! If that ever happens, we’ll definitely share that too.
We've decided to begin with bathrooms as we noticed this was a room that didn't infiltrate our Instagram and Pinterest feeds the way living rooms and kitchens did. It required a little more exploration on our part… (search: #bathr....)
We both found it challenging to narrow down our top choices to just three (and obviously our Dream Homes will have many, many beautiful bathrooms!) but we love what we've chosen, and we're excited to share them. So here goes - our Dream Home bathrooms of pure bliss:
I pretty much love everything about this bathroom, especially the rug and wood against the white tiles; the small bit of greenery and the built in bath with little shelf (although I am more of a shower girl. Luckily the shower is BIG!)
I love the gold, the round mirror, the gorgeous soft beige color on the walls and the built-in sink. The slightly dead plants also make me happy as these are what plants in my dream bathroom would be like - as I can't keep plants alive! The light just feels warm and romantic.
Like I said, I am a shower girl, and the tiles in this one are just beautiful. I like the contrast with the harsher lines of the wooden draws, the sink (this bathroom gets points if there is a second sink out of the picture!) and the modern lighting. Also, there's another rug!
A Room With A View
I've chosen a dream bathroom that I was once lucky enough to actually be in!! This gorgeous bathroom with a view of the sea is in one of the villas at Song Saa Private Island Resort, just off the coast of Cambodia. How wonderful to be in a bubble bath looking out onto the glistening sea (as an island girl, one of my Dream Homes is definitely by the sea!)
In spite of my first bathroom choice, like Sarah, I am actually a shower girl at heart. We are also both tile girls of course, and while Sarah's gone for green in her dream bathroom, I've gone for blue. I LOVE this blue, and I love it paired with these gold shower fixtures, the colours really pop. The window doesn't look very special but I think the sunlight factor is important. How fun is the shape of these tiles, too? I would love to start the day in this shower - I feel happy and energised just looking at it!
Indoor / Outdoor
It was hard to find a photo of my perfect outdoor bathroom, but I think this photo gets across what I'm looking for: open-air + tropical plants + shower. What it's missing: surface space for those shampoo bottles and shower gels(!), and a seat of some kind. What I hope is out of the picture: a bathtub (for those very occasional bubble baths) and good lighting.
Our must haves!
It was unanimous. Our Dream Home Bathrooms must have: double sinks, sunlight (for the plants, that may or may not survive), tiles, and great storage! Gotta have great storage.
